AKHIL BHARATIYA MAHARASHTRA TEERTHA PUROHIT SANGH, KASHI BRANCH
KASHI MAHARASHTRA BHAVAN
The Institute was established in the year 1955 (Vikram Samvat 2011). Deo family consisting of two brothers started the activities. And the pilgrims from Maharashtra got a reliable place for accommodation. The Bhavan prospered day by day.
Special Features of the Bhavan –
1. Spacious Premises – A mansion that can accommodate 500 pilgrims simultaneously is at the disposal of the Bhavan. The mansion was originally constructed by Late Nanasaheb Phadnis, a courtier of the Great Peshwas.
2. Proximity to the Ganges – The Bhavan is situated at a very small distance from the Ghats of the Ganges. It takes only two minutes to reach there on foot.
3. Proximity to the Market – Kashi (Also called as Benaras or Varansi) is famous for Silk cloth (particularly the silk sarres) and sweet-meats. The renowned vendors of the sweet-meats are at a distance of 10-15 minutes on foot. The saree shops are spread in the entire city.
4. The important temples like Kashi Vishweshwar temple, Akshay Vat (Eternal Banyan Tree), Annapoorna temples are at a distance of 15-20 minutes on foot. The route taking to these temples is through the main market place.
5. Lunch & dinner – The maharashtrians do not get the food as per the recipes of their region once they cross the borders of Maharashtra. They are fade up with the local food. Keeping this in mind, at the specific request from the pilgrims, arrangements of maharashtriyan food are also undertaken. They can have a choice of sitting arrangement. A spacious dining hall having capacity of 75 seats is also available at the Bhavan.
(The travel companies/groups who have own arrangements of cooking can make it convenient to have the large cooking room.)
6. Religious Rituals – Shodashopacharee pooja (worships with 16 offerings) of Shree Kashi-Vishweshwar, Rudrabhishek (worship alongwith recital of Rudra), Laghurudra, Maharudra, Setu-visarjan (offering Setu to the Ganges), Ganga-poojan (worship of the Ganges), Kumkumarchan (worshipping with Kumkum) are some of the rituals usually performed at the pilgrimage center. It is a customary to perform Shraaddha (12 offerings to the parted souls of forefathers). The Bhavan has capacity to make arrangements of enabling 10-15 pilgrims to perform Shraaddha at a time. Some people are interested in performing the threading-ceremony of their young-ones. To perform any type of ritual the Bhavan can arrange for the expert priests of any branch, viz. Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samveda or Atharvaveda. (The pilgrims undertaking different rituals are given concessions in the charges for the stay.)
7. Transparency in transactions – Since the institute was established with the motto of safeguarding the maharashtrian pilgrims from the deceiving and cheating from local people, the Bhavan maintains transparency in all dealings. It doesn’t seek or offer any commission to any person or institution for what-so-ever reason.
8. Protection of the luggage – Gaya, Prayag (Allahabad) and Ayodhya are some of the nearby pilgrim centers. It is convenient to camp in Kashi (Varansi) and to move to these places. It takes approximately 5 days to complete this travel. Instead of carrying the entire luggage, the travelers can carry only the needed luggage and keep the extra luggage at the Bhavan, under their OWN LOCK-N-KEY ARRANGEMENTS.
9. Affiliation with Akhil Bharatiya Maharashtra Teertha Purohit Sangh – As stated earlier, the institute was established with the motto of safeguarding the maharashtrian pilgrims from the deceiving and cheating from local people. The persons and institutions working at numbers of different pilgrim centers, with the same motive, formed an association. Bhavan is its member.
